The promise of true love rolls across the Highland hills in this rich collection of Scottish first in series romance novels from four USA Today bestselling authors! Whether from a noble Scot, a fierce Highlander, a rebel warrior, or a Scottish reiver the magnificent vistas of Scotland provide the perfect backdrop for unforgettable romance!

The Highlander's RewardWhen a lady arrives in Stirling to make good on a dreaded betrothal, she is thrown into the midst of a full battle between the Scots and the English. Besieged by rebels, she is whisked from her horse by a Highland warrior who promises her safety. But when he kisses her she fears she’s more in danger of losing herself.

MARIN’S PROMISE by Madeline Martin:

Marin's PromiseIn order to save his sister from certain death, a Scottish reiver must take an English castle by force. But its lady will defend it and her family at any cost, even if it means killing the usurper. In a world where desperation and love dictate the lives of many, a simple promise can change the tide of favor and open the door to pleasure and danger alike.

51jdzxqrsal__sx327_bo1204203200_Gwyneth Carswell, an English lady banished by her father to the harsh Scottish Highlands, wants nothing more than to take her young son away from the violence of two fighting clans–her own distant kin, the MacIrwins, and their enemies, the MacGraths. She risks everything to rescue the fierce MacGrath warrior from the battlefield where he’s left for dead by her clan. She only knows she is inexplicably drawn to him and he wants peace as she does. When her clan learns of her betrayal, they seek vengeance. Dare she trust the enemy more than her own family?

Laird Alasdair MacGrath is driven to end two-hundred years of feuding with the MacIrwins. But by taking in and protecting Lady Gwyneth and her son, he provokes more attacks from his mortal enemy. As the danger and conflict surrounding them escalate, Alasdair and Gwyneth discover an explosive passion neither of them expected. With the arrival of a powerful man from her past, a horrible decision confronts her–give up her son or the man she loves.

My Thoughts:

I love reading about Highlanders! When I read My Fierce Highlander by Vonda Sinclair, I fell in love with Laird Alasdair MacGrath almost at once. I wanted to be the one who rescued him.
This book is filled with adventure, danger, romance, fighting and the Highlands. What more can a Highland fan ask for!
I Loved it and Vonda Sinclair immediately became a go to author in this genre.

OUTLAW KING by Julie Johnstone:

Outlaw King CoverA deadly game of war entangles them. Deception endangers them. Only an impossible love can save them.

When headstrong Elizabeth de Burgh’s evil father threatens to kill her beloved cousin unless she seduces his enemy Robert the Bruce, she begrudgingly agrees. But as she grows close to the arrogant leader of the Scottish rebellion whose savage good looks whisper of pleasure, she discovers that behind Robert’s facade of coldhearted traitor lies a noble fighter who will risk all for the freedom of his country. Now, she can no longer imagine aiding in Robert’s destruction. But does she have a choice?

Fierce Scottish warrior Robert the Bruce would do anything to release his country from English rule and claim his rightful throne. Enemies on both sides surround him, however, and Robert must dance a dangerous line between truth and duplicity. One misstep could topple his nation and cost him his life. Yet one irresistible woman tempts him—and jeopardizes his mission—as no other ever has. Robert is in no position to entangle himself with the enemy, especially one who may be plotting his defeat, but the feisty, determined, blue-eyed beauty ignites a longing in Robert that he has never known. But is she his biggest threat or greatest source of strength?

Bound by duty and honor but ensnared by uncontainable desire, Robert and Elizabeth must decide how much they are willing to sacrifice for the one thing they thought they’d never find—extraordinary love.

My Thoughts:

This book is a well written imagining of what happened with the well known historical figure, Robert The Bruce. Despite the violence and treachery of the times anything written about this figure, whether fact or fiction has always fascinated me.
I was completely drawn in by this extraordinary tale of love and deceit. The plot is well drawn out and the characters are entrancing. This is a not to be missed book by Ms. Johnstone.
Outlaw King can easily be read as a standalone historical romance.
I gave this book 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3.5 of 5.0 flames. There is a palpable heat between hero and heroine.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the author to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
