Publisher’s Description:

Nicholas Eastwood is finally about to get everything he ever wanted. As a reward for his service to the Crown, he has been offered the title of marquess. All he has to do is stay scandal-free until the papers are signed. There’s just one problem: His ex-lover, presumed dead, is remarkably alive.

Adelaide Bursnell is determined to right her wrongs. She will be a dutiful daughter and loving sister. Most importantly, she must marry before her scandal catches up to her. Nicholas was once her ruin, but now he is determined to be her salvation. If he can find her a suitable husband, their shared past can stay buried.

But old temptations prove impossible to resist and scandal can never stay secret for long…

My Thoughts:

This book is easily as good if not better than the first book in the series, the author’s debut novel.

Though there are characters in this one that also appeared in “Twice As Wicked” it can be read as a standalone without skipping a beat. Once I started reading it I found it hard to put down.

Adelaide Bursnell is a very determined lady. Although she was previously ruined and bore a child she has returned from the dead. Everyone believed both she and her child to have perished in childbirth.

Nicholas Eastwood has been awarded a title due to his service to the crown. The title is an even higher one than the one his twin (older) brother holds due to the circumstances of his birth.

He has returned and is no longer in service or a spy. Finding and making right all the wrongs of his past to Adelaide is his greatest wish. However he has been told she is dead. Imagine his surprise to open his door to find the lady there and very much alive. Not only is she alive but she is pointing a very deadly looking pistol at him.

He, unknowingly, not only ruined Lady Adelaide but he was the father to the child she bore. How will this sometimes comical scenario end?

I gave this very delightful book 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3.75 of 5.0 flames. The intimacy in this book is less heated due to the nature of this couple’s past.

I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Publisher’s Description:

Madeline Oxley has been ruined by a scandal through no fault of her own, and her future looks bleak. When a gentleman from her past requests that she set sail for the New World to become his wife, she jumps at the chance to become a mail order bride and marry the man she has loved since she was a girl.

Adam Coates was a mere tenant farmer when he left England for the British Colony of Nova Scotia, but now he is a prosperous and influential landowner. What Madeline doesn’t know is that her father has hoodwinked them both—for the bride Adam truly wanted was her beautiful, older sister, Diana—his first love. When Madeline steps off the ship with romantic dreams of her long-awaited happily-ever-after, she is shocked and dismayed to discover the truth. Madeline is furious with her father for his treachery, but she has sailed across an ocean to an unfamiliar land and must remain, at least temporarily, under the protection of the man she still loves—the man who still intends to wed her sister.

Over the coming weeks, as their friendship deepens and grows, will Adam come to realize that he’d set his heart on the wrong sister all along? Or will it be too late to find the happiness they both desire?

Adam’s Promise was a Romance Writers of America RITA Finalist – nominated for best short historical romance of 2003. It is a sweet historical romance.
