Publisher’s Description:
This is a new edition, completely re-written for much richer in characterization, conflict and tension.
THIS IS THE FIRST BOOK OF A THREE BOOK SAGA.
An independent young lady meets a bold merchant captain pursued by a band of pirates…what could possibly go wrong?
Fiercely independent and equally impetuous Keelan Grey acts the dutiful daughter on the outside, but inside, she’s determined to avoid marriage even if it means taking the most desperate measures. Everything changes when a deathbed confession from a loved one plunges her into a dark plot of deception and revenge, and an assassin targets members of her family. Desperate for help, Keelan finds an unlikely ally in the antagonistic, but irresistible sea captain, Landon Hart.
Rakishly handsome and equally exasperating Landon Hart is a Freedom Runner-part of a network of people moving runaways to a new life up North. He’s in Charleston to smuggle a recently escaped group aboard his ship, and uncover the purpose of a clandestine meeting between his late business partner and a British plantation owner. When he meets a sword-wielding, fiery-haired temptress on the way, he isn’t prepared for the impact she has on his tightly guarded heart…nor the trouble she manages to attract.
My Thoughts:
Although badly edited I did mostly like this story. I had to struggle through unusual and unnecessary punctuation. Copyright symbols and other characters that were placed in places where they weren’t needed. Apparently this was due to a formatting problem.
I didn’t like the ending. This story ended in a cliffhanger.
Instead of a story of it’s own you have to wait for the next book to find out what eventually happens to our hero and heroine.
Because of the formatting issue I gave this poignant story 3.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 2.5 of 5.0 flames.
I would have rated it higher if not for the formatting issue taking away from the story.
The intimate scene between our hero and heroine is only a heavy petting one therefore the low sensual rating.
I hope the re-write of the next book is soon ready so we will know our couple’s fate.
I received an uncorrected digital ARC of this book to read for review from the author/publisher. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
Note To The Reader:
After this review was originally posted I received an email from the author asking what format I had downloaded. As stated above the apparent extra symbols and characters were a formatting issue that the author was not aware of as they didn’t show up on her end.
Hart’s Passion (Book 2)
Keelan Grey is running away from an arranged marriage and Captain Landon Hart doesn’t know it yet, but she’s just been hired as the new cook’s helper on his ship.
When pirates kidnap her first, the fiery vixen ends up neck-deep in trouble. To make matters worse, if certain people find out what Landon’s smuggling in the walls of his hold, all hell will break loose.
Keelan is forced to act a charade and soon her life depends on her playing the part. With the mystery of her true identity yet to be solved, and enemies closing in, she must rely both on her wits and skill with a blade to survive.
One thing is certain; the pirates suspect she’s hidden aboard Landon’s ship, and it’s not long before their schooner is spotted on the horizon.
Hart’s Reward (Book 3)
An accident robs Landon of the last five years of his life, turning his new wife, Keelan into a stranger aboard his ship.
Worse, a series of events putting members of the Freedom Runners in jeopardy has Landon accusing Keelan of conspiracy and betrayal. When each explanation sounds more outlandish than the last, her hope for Landon to fall in love with her again becomes more and more futile. Bounty hunters close in, setting a trap for Landon. To save him, Keelan must persuade him to trust her. Her fight for Landon’s love soon turns into a fight for his life.
Pirates & Petticoats novels take the reader on a high seas journey, starting in the American south and sweeping across the ocean to Jamaica In Pirate Heiress (novel 4) and New Orleans (Redeeming the Pirate-novel 5). If you enjoy American literature, women’s action and adventure, family sagas, romantic action adventure, historical romance, action and adventure fiction, action and adventure romance fiction, or saga fiction in the kindle store, you’ll love this series!

“Few authors portray the Scottish highlands as lovingly or colorfully as Hannah Howell.” — Publishers Weekly

She has never met a man like him before. Then again, he has never met a lad like her.
In 1802, Edinburgh’s poverty-ridden Old Town is rife with danger, but it is the only home Robbie MacKenzie has ever known. To safeguard herself against the worst villains of the street, Robbie conceals her femininity behind her shorn hair, dirt-smeared face, and tattered breeches. To all the world she is a lad, but beneath the ruse is a woman aching to break free.
Leaving his beloved Highlands behind in pursuit of his prodigal brother, Conall MacKay journeys to Edinburgh. There, he solicits the aid of a young street lad named Robbie. But Conall soon realizes that there is more to both Robbie and Edinburgh’s Old Town than meets the eye.
In a world where wickedness governs and darkness reigns, a savage struggle for dignity, survival, and love begins.
