Publisher’s Description:

Imagine, if you will, that it is Christmas Eve.

The candles are guttered, one by one, and a hush falls over the grand parlor. The children have gone to bed, and a tall, gloriously decorated Christmas tree looms in the shadows of the hearth’s dying embers. Beside the tree a nutcracker stands guard, its broken jaw cradled in a kerchief tied about its head. All is quiet in this dark, peaceful scene until the long case clock chimes. Dulcet tones form a gentle symphony, and the parlor comes to life.

Now, the magic happens.

Lose yourself in The Nutcracker Reimagined, a collection of eleven Christmas tales based on the most treasured characters from the famous holiday ballet, The Nutcracker. Sugarplum fairies will dance in your head, as armies of mice and legions of dolls do battle, and a wounded nutcracker and his lady fair become the stuff of which legends are made. From Arabian dancers to living flowers and hosts of angels, enjoy these tales as reimagined characters from the beloved Christmas tradition find their own happily ever after.

And as the clock’s chimes signal the approaching sunrise, you’ll awaken from these magical stories to discover it has all been a beautiful dream of a retold Christmas classic.

My Thoughts:

You can’t help but love this collection of holiday novellas. Eleven authors come together with their own versions of the much loved classic ballet, The Nutcracker Suite. Admittedly I did not like all of them, but for the most part you can’t beat these short stories for holiday entertainment value.

  1. RODRICK THE BOLD by Suzan Tisdale (A favorite author with a good story)
  2. ALL SHE WANTED FOR CHRISTMAS by Layna Pimentel (Good but not the best in the bundle)
  3. REALM OF ANGELS by Kathryn LeVeque (Author whose style doesn’t appeal to me.)
  4. THE MERCENARY’S BRIDE by Claire Delacroix (The best story of the bundle)
  5. ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS KNIGHT by Barbara Devlin (Well written, but missing a little something)
  6. BRASH: FREDERICK by Hildie McQueen (Not my cup of tea, has nothing that I can see to do with the Nutcracker)
  7. TO KISS A GOVERNESS by Emma Prince (Excellent story telling; another good one)
  8. CHRISTMAS AT THE INN ON CLOUD HILL by Tiina DeSalvo (Another well written story)
  9. PRELUDE TO THE HIGHLANDER’S GIFT by Eliza Knight (A favorite author, but her contribution is too short)
  10. ONE MYSTICAL MOMENT by Laura Landon (Good story but not the best of the collection)
  11. + One More

Overall I gave this collection 4.25 of 5.0 stars. There are some stories that did not appeal to me. They aren’t written in a style I would usually read, but for the most part the stories are good and well written.

There is not much in the way of intimacy or spice in these tales, so be prepared for mostly sweet stories.

Voted Best Short Story/Novella in All About Romance’s 2014 Reader Poll

With one more errand to go–the purchase of a hunting falcon–Andrew Blackshear has Christmas completely under control. As his sister’s impending marriage signals the inevitable drifting-apart of the Blackshear family, it’s his last chance to give his siblings the sort of memorable, well-planned holiday their parents could never seem to provide.

He has no time to dawdle, no time for nonsense, and certainly no time to drive the falconer’s vexing, impulsive, lush-lipped, midnight-haired daughter to a house party before heading home. So why the devil did he agree to do just that?

Lucy Sharp has been waiting all her too-quiet life for an adventure, and she means to make the most of this one. She’s going to enjoy the house party as no one has ever enjoyed a house party before, and in the meanwhile she’s going to enjoy every minute in the company of amusingly stern, formidably proper, outrageously handsome Mr. Blackshear. Let him disapprove of her all he likes–it’s not as though they’ll see each other again after today.

…or will they? When a carriage mishap and a snowstorm strand the pair miles short of their destination, threatening them with scandal and jeopardizing all their Christmas plans, they’ll have to work together to save the holiday from disaster. And along the way they just might learn that the best adventures are the ones you never would have thought to plan.

A Christmas Gone Perfectly Wrong is a long novella/short novel of about 62,000 words. It’s a prequel to the already-available Blackshear Family series.

The e-book includes an excerpt of about 5600 words from A Lady Awakened; the novella itself ends at about the 90% mark on your e-reader.

Publisher’s Description:

After a night of gambling at London’s most famous gaming hell, Lord Beckett Thornby and his friend, Lord Alfred Weston, make a shocking discovery. They come across a beautiful young woman–clad only in a nightdress–laying unconscious in a rubbish heap. Worried for her safety and famous for his habit of taking in strays, Beckett takes the mysterious girl home and puts her to bed, intent on calling a doctor the next day. But his good intentions go awry when his mother and solicitor make an unplanned visit the next morning, and all hell breaks loose.

When the impoverished viscount learns he is now heir to a wealthy earldom, Beckett must quickly take a bride. Having been jilted by his former fiancée, he no longer believes in love… but Beckett does believe in the heated desire this “mysterious angel” stirs within him. He vows to make the voluptuous beauty his wife.

Isobel Hampton is on the run from a villainous nobleman who will stop at nothing until he possesses both her and her family estate. The strong-minded miss makes a break for freedom and disappears into the night, but Sir Harry Lennox vows to find her.

When she awakens in the bed of a handsome viscount, Isobel demands to know how she got there. But something in Lord Thornby’s eyes makes her want to trust the handsome lord. When he proposes a marriage of convenience, it could be the solution to all of Isobel’s problems… or just the beginning of them.

For though Beckett and Isobel have sworn to a marriage in name only, the flame of passion burns hot between them. As they engage in a dangerous dance of seduction, the last place they expect to find true love is in each other’s arms.
